According to the ICC, the Champions Trophy prize pool increased to $6.9 million this year, which is an increase of 53% from 2017, and the winner gets $2.24 million.
Pakistan is hosting an ICC event for the very first time in 28 years. The quadrennial eight-team One-Day International (ODI) tournament begins on February 19 in Karachi and will conclude with the final on March 9.
The event will consist of 15 matches across Pakistan and Dubai after India refused to travel to arch-rivals Pakistan, only to agree to play their matches in the neutral Gulf city.
The runners-up will receive $1.12 million and $560,000 each for the losing semi-finalists. The fifth- and sixth-place teams will get $350,000 each, while the seventh- and eighth-placed teams will receive $140,000 each.
The ICC cut the 2021 edition of the Champions Trophy in 2016, feeling only one major tournament should be conducted in each of the sport’s three international formats and that the 50-over World Cup should be the priority. They reversed that decision by the end of 2021.
The 2023 edition of the quadrennial 10-team ODI World Cup, won by Australia after they defeated India in Gujarat, had comparatively more group-stage and knockout matches and offered $4 million for the winning team out of a total prize pool of $10 million.
