Winter in Dhaka brings stylish celebrations, with saree styling embracing timeless elegance. Faux furs, velvet jackets, and cardigan-blouse pairings revive vintage charm. From regal embroidery to soft cashmere shawls, winter wear radiates glamour and sophistication.

At long last the most awaited season of the year is upon us. That hint of chill in the air, days of mellow sunshine, and long magical nights are what we pine for all year and rightly so! Indeed, there is something so special, so wonderful about winter in Dhaka that only Danaites can know and understand. And boy, do we like to celebrate in style! Splendid weddings, parties, dinners, and brunches keep our social calendars abuzz, and we turn out our festive best without fail.
The best thing that happens in winter styling is the reintroduction of stylish outerwear relegated to the dark corners of our wardrobe throughout the year. Sleeveless tops and off-shoulder dresses may hold a place in our hearts, but winter wear is something else. Just imagine a lady ravishing in a sequined black saree-slimmer and stunning. Wrapped over her glowing shoulder is a shining fur stole- so timelessly elegant that all eyes are upon her!

Channel old-world glam in this colder weather to turn heads in no time. Furs-they have to be faux, of course!-are undeniably chic and incredibly sophisticated. They instantly add high-octane glamour to party looks and can be dressed in various ways.

A maroon, emerald, or sapphire-shaded chiffon saree will look gorgeous with a brown or black fur stole. Sable-toned furs look fabulous with subdued shades like rose beige, mauve, or white.
Another great option for styling sarees in winter is a jacket or shirt-style blouse. This timeless piece of work was invented by the aristocratic ladies during the British Raj. A little inspiration from the jackets donned by English ladies and here comes the magic invented by the women of the Agora family who are still remembered for their ultimate taste in fashion and style during that period.

Short-length jackets in fabrics like silk, brocade, and Jamadar, coupled with embroidery works such as zardozi and Zari, are worn with the saree of one’s choice. The fact that what’s classic is forever loved gets proved once again, as this old traditional style happens to be still remarkably relevant and loved by designers on our subcontinent.

Aishwarya Rai immortalized this style in the sartorial sensation of a movie, Devadas, which is a study in style in itself. Pair a katan saree with a jacket blouse, ancho draped in the front or the back, hair tied in a low bun with marcel waves, and voila!
Late legendary designer Rohit Bal of India left behind arguably his biggest contribution to fashion-long, embroidered jackets over a saree. This makes for a fantastic statement, elegant to the best of any word that defines it.

A velvet jacket with heavy embroidery is an investment piece and is a gift that keeps on giving. A navy jacket will look great with a maroon velvet saree or an emerald jacket with a white Georgette saree. It looks stunning either way. Put your hair up in a bun and throw in some stunning chandelier earrings for those magical nights. Well-styled women of our subcontinent always wore a cardigan for the lighter and classy option to take away the chill from the body with grace.

. Mothers and grandmothers paired delicate cardigans in soft tones such as ivory, peach, or pink during nippy winter days with chiffon sarees; one looking pretty was lovely. What a great turn of course it is that we, the women of today, keep going back to the archival styles, re-molding them, and making them our own! Cardigans and shawls are perfect for daytime brunches and ladies’ lunches. Chiffon and georgette sarees worn with a coordinated cardigan look beautiful.

A delicately draped Devonshire cream cashmere shawl on your shoulder over the salmon pink saree keeps you warm and cozy as you sip on your smoky Earl Grey at your friend’s afternoon tea party-the pearls around your neck, the diamonds on your ears glinting and glimmering in the soft rays of sun in the late winter afternoon.(no title)
